Growing too fast

Marli is almost 3 months old. The time has gone by so fast! They are little babies for such a short time, I try to soak it in as much as possible. We blessed Marli this month. It was such a special day! I can't believe its already over, time really has gone so fast. She looked darling in her white blessing dress, it was neat to have her wear the same dress that Makena was blessed in and it brought back lots of memories. I am thankful to have such a beautiful, healthy baby girl. Here are some pictures from her special day and of the last few weeks, also of her cute room that we just finished up. She is smiling a lot now, especially when we talk to her and it melts our hearts everytime.

6 years and counting

In September Shane and I celebrated our 6 year Anniversery! I can't beleive its been 6 years already, its been a wonderful journey so far! To celebrate we took the girls down to Temple Square to walk around the Temple and the Visitors Center. It was a beautiful evening and such a fun night for our little family. There were a few brides out getting pictures around the Temple, they brought back lots of memeories from our special day 6 years ago. It was crazy to look at our two kids and see how far we've come and how much our family has changed in such a short time. Makena loved seeing the Temple and wanted to pose for pictures just like the brides were. I hope we can continue to show Makena and Marli how special the Temple is and what a blessing it is so they will someday go there too!

Boating

A few weeks ago we took advantage of the beautiful fall weather we are having and took the boat out. We took Shane's cousin, Tyler and my dad with us too. Makena rode her ski and helped drive the boat. It was Marli's first time on the boat and she spent the time snuggled in her carseat looking around. She seemed to really enoy the ride and didn't make a peep the whole time. We're happy to have another boat lover in the family. It was a fun night!

Marli is almost 6 weeks old! Time with her is flying by. We love having her in our home, she has brought such a special spirit to it. She is such a good baby, she still sleeps a lot but is starting to be a bit more alert and is a great eater. I call her my angel baby, she just has such a mild temperment. She is still a tiny little thing but has grown quite a bit in the last few weeks. We love this little baby and think she is such a cutie! We feel so blessed and happy to have her!

Makena Update

My sweet Makena is growing up so fast I can't believe it. She turned 3 last month and started Pre-school! Yes it was a big month! Its been so much fun to watch her grow and change. I feel like it was just yesterday that she was born and now here she is going off to school all on her own. She is such a fun, energetic girl. She loves playing with her babies and going shopping with her play grocery cart. She talks a ton and is such a good helper with Marli. I love this little girl so much even though lately she has really become an expert at challenging my negotiation skills and thinks she is the one runnin' the show at our house. She never stops moving these days and just watching her wears me out but she never fails to bring a smile to my face or make us laugh at the funny things she has to say. At her 3 year old check up her stats were 27 pounds and 37 inches tall.

Here are some pictures from her birthday. Aunt Mandi totally surprised us by showing up at our house the night before Makena's b-day. There was a knock at the door and when we opened it there she was! What a wonderful surprise! Mandi came out to see baby Marli and be there for Makena's party, what an incredible aunt! Thank you to her and my mom for such a fun surprise! Makena requested a Princess Cake for her big day, and it turned out super cute! We had a fun party with family in the back yard. She is now officially a big 3 year old!

Makena goes to pre-school one day a week at the school where she will go to Elementary School. Her teacher is Ms. Leesa, and her little cousin Sawyer is in her class. She has gone twice so far and is doing so good. I can tell that she really loves it! It is still weird for me to take her to school and leave her there, she looks so little going in there. These pics are from back to school night and the first day of school.

We bought this "EZ Ski" to help teach Makena how to ski and get her comfortable being pulled behind the boat and out in the water. This is her first time doing it and we think she did pretty awesome especially since she is only 3! She'll be as good as her dad in no time! Check out the video on Youtube, hope you enjoy!

Our Early Surprise!

August has been a very exciting month for us so far. On August 2nd I was headed up to Girl's Camp with the Young Women in my ward. Many people had questioned me about going when I was so pregnant but I kept saying that it was a month before I was due and we were going to a cabin so why wouldn't I go, I had planned a lot of it and really wanted to be there. I woke up that morning feeling a little nauseous and yucky but I figured it was just because I hadn't slept very good and I was a bit stressed about camp. Unfortunately, as the time went on I wasn't getting better and the next day we while were at Pineview to go boating with the girls I really hit rock bottom, I was so sick I just wanted to curl up in a ball and cry. I was being stubborn and wanted to tough it out so I didn't leave all the leaders and girls hanging at camp but I finally couldn't ignore it anymore and decided I better head to my doctor. Shane and my dad had brought their boats up and were both out somewhere on the lake when I decided I had to leave so I called Shane and told him I was heading to Bountiful and that Makena was on the beach with my friend Becky. It was seriously the longest drive of my life but I finally made it to my doctor's office in Bountiful. I had a fever of almost 104 and the baby's heart rate was going super fast so the doctor was concerned and decided to admit me and put me on an IV of fluids to get the fever down. They weren't sure if I had an infection or just a virus so he wanted to watch me over night. At first I seemed to be getting better but by early the next morning I was very sick again, my fever was up and I was throwing up again. Things were just weird and not right. My doctor was very hesitant to start labor since the baby would be almost a month early but with my symptoms and everything that was going on he finally decided it wasn't worth risking the baby getting sick from the infection they thought I had. So on August 4th at about 8:30 am he broke my water and we were on our way to having our little girl. Things were going so fast and unexpected it was crazy, but I was so excited for our baby to come. At 4:12pm she was born, a darling dark haired (lots of dark hair) little girl weighing in at 6lbs 12oz and 19 1/2 inches long!! We were thrilled to find out that even though she was almost a month early and that I was so sick she was healthy and perfect! It took us a little bit to commit to a name but we ended up naming her Marli and it fits her perfectly. She is just so tiny and cute and such a sweet baby. She still sleeps a ton but eats well and loves to be held. Makena is darling with her and has adjusted to having a little sister very well! She loves to help with her and is so tender and loving. She gets so excited when Marli opens her eyes and calls me to come look at her every time it happens. We are loving life and enjoying our sweet Marli even though getting her here was a bit early and exciting. I still find myself looking at her in amazement that she is actually here and thinking I should still be pregnant for 2 more weeks. Dancing Queen!!

In January I signed Makena up for a dance class. A girl in our ward teaches and has a studio in her basment and was going to do a class for 2 year olds. At first it started out a little rough, all the girls would cry and cling to their moms and we were all wondering why we were doing this. But within just a few weeks the girls loved it and ran into class so excited. Here are some pictures of Makena with Teacher Amy and the girls in her class.

They had a recital on May 5th, Makena's class learned the "Wheels on The Bus" dance for the recital. It was darling, they all did so good. Shane and I were a little nervous about what Makena would do because at the rehersal she got on stage and cried. With all the other girls their doing their dances and so much excitment Makena couldn't wait to go on stage and she did the whole dance, no crying! I will put the video of it on here soon, but I need Shane to show me how so for now here are some pics of her in her cute costume and at the recital!

Playing Catch Up...

Updating my blog has been moved way down on the priority list lately as things have been so busy. We have had some fun times over the past few months though so I thought I would share just a few things, especially for those of you out of state (namely Mandi & Cole and Jake & Whitney).

The weather has been crazy here the past few months, very cold and wet. We are so tired of the cold and are hoping so bad that spring will finally come to stay. We have had some nice days lately and have actually gotten a few things done in the yard but just when it seems like the warm is here its cold again. One day in mid April Makena and I looked out the window to find it snowing. We were both quite suprised, Makena immediately wanted to go get her beanie and put it on. So we did and went out on the porch to look at the snow.

Next thing I know she had convinced me to put on ALL our snow clothes and we were making a snowman. Makena just loved making the snowman, it was her first one and it was really so much fun! We had a great afternoon and she still to this day talks about her snowman! It was just a little weird that it was in April.

Our pregnancy is going great, we are so anxious to get this little girl here and meet her. Makena talks about her little sister often and is so cute about it. This is at the end of April, I am 20 weeks (5 months) along.

We had a really fun Easter, we dyed Easter Eggs with Makena the night before and she thought this was so fun. Her eggs turned out so cute and she was pretty proud of them.

I have been debating all week if I should make this post or not since 15 weeks is a little early to tell what sex the baby is. BUT the doctor said he got some really good shots in the ultra sound and he is 95% sure so I figure that is pretty sure. So here it is we're having a...GIRL!!! We are thrilled, ever since having Makena we have always said that we love girls and would be fine having all girls. I am feeling quite a bit better now that I have reached 16 weeks, I am so glad for that.

I have been hoping to make this post for a long time and now that it is finally here and happening I can't believe it...I am so excited to announce that we are expecting!! It took us a long time to get pregnant this time around and it has been a difficult pregnancy so far but we are thrilled and can't wait to welcome a second child into our home this August. I am 14 weeks along now, I have been really sick with this one so the last two months have dragged by. I am slowly starting to feel a little better with each day, I am back to cooking dinner some nights of the week, going to the grocery store and cleaning my house occasionally. Its amazing how much we can take for granted feeling good and full of energy to do these basic things each day, I am so glad I don't always feel like this and that I know it will end soon. I appreciate Shane's help during this time, he has really jumped it and taken over so many things that I just couldn't do while being so sick, he is a darling dad to Makena and she adores him. I also owe my mom a ton, she has taken Makena to give me time to rest, brought us dinners and even helped clean my house, I am so grateful to her. We are not really sure how much Makena understands other that we keep telling her there is a baby in my tummy and this summer after her birthday we will have a little baby at our house. She looks at my growing belly with wide eyes and points at it and likes to look at the ultrasound pics of her new baby. She loves babies and is such a sweet girl so I am sure she will be a very helpful and excited big sister! They will be exactly three years apart, at first I was getting so stressed when we were having trouble getting pregnant because they were going to be so far apart but now I feel that the timing is just right for us. Makena is so easy now, we potty trained her in December and she does so good, she never has accidents, she sleeps through the night and is usually a great little helper. She is a bit stubborn which both Shane and I swear came from the other one...ok the whole family is a little stubborn. We have an appointment one week from today and I get to have an ultra sound so we may get to find out what we are having if they can tell. Even though the last few months have been a challenge I am so thankful that I am pregnant and that we get to have another sweet baby come into our family. This is such a fun time in our lives! Stay tuned next week to see if its a girl or a boy!

Here is the first pic of our baby. When I went in for our first appointment I thought I was 8 weeks along but found out I was really 11 weeks along! This was a big suprise and brought a lot of relief to me since I was feeling so sick.

NEW YORK

Over Thanksgiving Shane, me and Makena joined my parents and traveled to New York to spend the holiday with Jake and Whitney and Mandi and Cole since they are all back there going to school. We started out by heading up to Buffalo, New York where Jake and Whitney live. It was so fun to see their darling apartmen and the University of Buffalo where Jake is going to Dental School and to just get an idea of their life in Buffalo. We went to Niagra Falls one day, and then to Palmyra another day to see the Sacred Grove, Hill Camorah, and the Grandin Press. Our time in upstate New York with Jake and Whitney was so much fun. I really loved going back to the church history sites and having Shane and Makena with me this time, there is such a special feeling there. Here are some pics of the first leg of our journey.

When we arrived in Buffalo we went to Jake and Whitney's apartment which is so cute! They had a delicious dinner of "real" Buffalo Wings for us. It was great to be with them in their home.

Room Service for our princess! One night when we got home we didn't want to run out to a restaurant to get Makena something to eat so we order her a Peanut Butter sandwhich through room service and it came up on this fancy try, she thought it was pretty cool!

On Thanksgiving morning all 7 of us boarded another plane and headed to Manhattan to spend the rest of the trip with Mandi and Cole. They met us at the airport and then we went to their little apartment for a yummy bruch and to freshen up before our special Thanksgiving dinner at Times Square! It was a wonderful Thanksgiving being all together in New York and the banquet dinner we went to was awesome! While in the city we did A LOT of site seeing! We went to the Museum of Natural History, the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, Phantom of the Opera, Central Park, FAO Swartz Toy Store, Washington Square and so so much more. We rode the metro to get around most of the time we were there and Makena loved this, I think it was one of her favorite things we did. We also saw where Mandi goes to school and we went to church with Mandi and Cole. I really loved just seeing their apartment and how they live in New York City, it is just so different than life in Utah. Its busy, exciting and crowded with lots to do. Here are more pics of the highlights from our trip to New York. It was a trip of a lifetime and we loved every minute of it!

HaLlOwEeN!!!

We had a 3 day celebration for Halloween this year and it was so fun! Makena was Minnie Mouse and was so excited that she got to wear her mouse costume so much. I even painted her little nose black on the end and gave her little whiskers, I think this was her favorite part...gettting makeup on. We started out on Friday with Shane's family. Amy had us all over for a Halloween party. The kids all dressed up and looked so cute. We had all kinds of soup with bread sticks and it was so delicious. The kids played all the fun Halloween games like the "Mummy Wrap" and the "Doughnut eating contest". It was a great party-thanks Amy! Then on Saturday I took Makena Trick or Treating. I wasn't sure what to expect because last year we only made it to about 3 houses and she was done. Also, it was a little cold that night but Makena surpassed all my expectations and absolutely LOVED it! We were out Trick or Treating for over 2 hours and she literally ran the whole time. She was so excited and thought it was the greatest thing ever she could hardly contain herself. She seriously was laughing and bursting with happiness. We went with a few of our neighbors and their kids who Makena loves so she just followed all the kids and kept up with them just great. I kept asking her if she wanted me to carry her but no way was she going for that, she was one of the big kids that night! It was so much fun, I think I loved it as much as her. She looked adorable climbing the steps up to each door and holding her little bag out for candy. When we got home she looked though her bag and set her candy out and was dancing all around. She was wired! It was so cute and funny! Then on Sunday after church we headed down to my mom and dad's for a little Halloween party. We had hamburger soup and lots of great food. My parents surprised us by dressing up...it was so funny and I never would have guessed their costume. My mom was a hunter (not her favorite thing in the world...the first and probably only time she will ever wear the hunter orange. HaHa) and my dad was the buck. They looked really cute and it was a lot of fun. Makena wasn't sure what to think of Grandma and Grandpa in their crazy outfits at first. My mom had a cute Halloween game for Makena to play and we just hung out. It was an exciting and extra fun Halloween this year!!

Bitter Sweet

We hit a pretty big milestone at our house this month...Makena graduated from her crib and moved into a Big Girl Bed! This has been a bitter sweet experience for me. I had a fun time finding the headboard and bedding and it turned out so cute. Also, Makena was very ready to be out of the crib and has done really great in the big bed. But my heart aches just a little whenever I put her in it because it means that my baby is growing up and she is turning into a little girl who is independent and has her own opinions and personality. I don't want my baby to grow up, I have had so much fun with her and still almost everyday I think "I wish I could freeze time right here, she is so fun and perfect right now." But I guess if I stopped time then I would miss out on all the fun times and special moments still to come. I am so glad that she is doing so good in her new bed! But it does still suprise me when she comes walking out in the morning or after a nap, I can't get used to the fact that she doesn't need me to come get her out of her crib. Fall Time

We have really enjoyed fall at our house this year. We haven't done anything too exciting and its been really busy but we have had a lot of good times. Here are a few pics from the last couple months.

Holding one of our pumpkins from our garden. We did much better than last year when we only got two little tiny crooked things, this year we got 8 nice pumpkins!!

The Poncho. I think it is so cute and LOVE it...Makena wasn't so sure about it, I seriously spent a good portion of the day convincing her it was super cute and that she wanted to wear it. :)

We never got around to carving our pumpkins this year but one day Makena kept asking me to draw but then she would cry everytime I gave her paper. She kept going to the front door and pointing. Finally, I figured out she wanted to draw on a pumpkin. I think she got confused because early in the day I had told her when she colored I would draw her a pumpkin to color...I guess she thought we would really color a real pumpkin, so I helped her draw a face on it and she took this very seriously.

We have been trying to get Makena to ride on the lawn mower with Papa all summer and she usually just runs away and cries, she did not like it at all. Well, lately she has been on a major daddy kick and wants Shane to do EVERYTHING for her and with her. Shane told her he was going to go mow the lawn so she would have to go in with mom, she took one look at me and jumped on that lawn mower...its amazing what a little motivation can do. They had a great time on it and she now loves riding on the mower.

Makena and I went to Park City with Shane's mom and sisters and all the girl cousins for a night. It was a fun get-away and the little girls had a ball! They got twin glasses at the restaurant, so cute!

Emma and Makena in Park City. Makena adores Emma...she says her name at least 20 times a day. Whenever we are going anywhere she asks if we are going to Emma. I am glad that Emma is so sweet and patient with her.

I went on a Girl's Night Out with all my best friends, we stayed in my friends condo in downtown Salt Lake and went out to dinner and talked all night. It was sooo fun, it brought back so many memories from highschool. I have such good friends.

We tended my niece Gretchen one day and Makena loved it. She couldn't stop hugging her and bringing her little toys and books to play with. She was thrilled to have her there and thought it was the funnest thing ever. I thought it was pretty fun too.

TWO!!!

My baby girl turned two on Thursday. Its hard to believe that Makena is already two, the time has gone by so fast! Makena is such a fun little girl, she is always so busy going a hundred miles an hour at every moment. She is talking a lot now and continues to be very social and happy. She loves playing with her baby dolls and singing, she can even do the ABC song really well. SHe is definitely becoming a true two year old though, she wants to do everything by herself and she knows what she wants and gets very frustrated if we don't get it immediately. She makes us laugh constantly and we love her so much! We had such a fun birthday with her to celebrate her special day. First, on Tuesday my mom and I took her to Build-A- Bear to pick out a bear. It was so cute and although I think Makena had a fun time I am sure that my mom and I were way more into it than her and had too much fun picking clothes for a little bear. The morning of her birthday she got to open a few presents to play with during the day. My mom gave her a ballet outfit with a tutu and she loved it, she spent the rest of the day in it. She wouldin't even take the ballet shoes off for her nap. I turned on the music and she danced and sang and thought she was the coolest thing ever. We were going to go swimming but it ended up raining all day so Makena and I just played inside and got ready to have Grandma and Grandpa up for dinner. That night my parents came up for dinner and to open presents. Shane and I gave her a kitchen and she loved it, she has already spent many hours playing with it and "making" us and her babies dinner. My parents gave her a little four wheeler, she got the hang of pushing the button pretty quick and thought it was neat how it went on its own without her pushing. It is so cute and she will have lots of fun on it. We had a great night with my parents and it was a fun day. The next night we had a BBQ with Shane's family. It was a ton of fun to have them all over. We roasted hot dogs in the firepit and had lots of other yummy food. Shane pulled out his hockey nets that he made and all the sticks and they had a great game of hockey boys against girls! Makena was spoiled with lots more fun presents. What a fun B-Day she had. We love you!!

Pineview

Okay, I am so behind on posting these pics but it was so much fun I had to share a few of them. In July my brother and his wife came into town from New York where he is going to Dental School. We were sooooo excited to have them here and spend some time with them! Jake and Whitney and my mom and dad came up to my house for a BBQ on Sunday and then on Tuesday we all headed up to stay in a condo at Pineview for the rest of the week. We had such a fun time! We boated a ton, played games, took naps, went swimming at the pool and just relaxed and hung out together. It was great to have the whole family together. Makena had a ton of fun with her aunts and uncles. Here are some pics from that fun week.

HAIR CUT

We had Makena's hair cut for the first time a few weeks ago. Her hair was getting so long which I loved because I could put it up in cute pig tails but the back was way longer than the sides and it was looking a bit stringy. I was a little nervous about cutting her hair, I am not one to make drastic changes to hair styles without lots of thought and consideration to it. When Kristen started cutting and I saw how much she was cutting off I got a little anxious and wondered if I had made the right choice, but as soon as she was done it was absolutley darling! Makena went from being my baby girl to my sassy toddler right in front of my eyes! It made her look so grown up and it is just so cute. I think the style totally fits her personality, she is so outgoing, talkative, active and yes even a bit sassy. I was so proud of her, she sat so good in the chair and didn't cry or try to pull away.

She didn't like wearing the cape, she just wanted to hold it so we decided to go with no shirt and let her play with the cape to distract her. She really sat so still and did so good. She is used to getting her hair curled and sitting still, but I worried that the scissors might scare her.

Summer

We are having such a fun summer so far. It has gone by so fast and I can't believe August will be here in just a week, we have tried to enjoy every moment and have had a great time. Our summer has been full of swimming, boating, yard work, family, friends, swinging, playing, laughing a little sleep here and there and just a whole lot of fun! I just downloaded a ton of pictures from my camera and I am having a hard time knowing where to start but here are a few of the highlights of our summer with Makena. She is growing up and changing every day, it is exciting to watch her take in all the new things. She is so much fun and I love spending my days playing with her and watching her as she learns and grows.

WATER FUN

One Monday night for family night we went boating with our good friend's and neighbor's the Rowley's. We fished most of the time, which is a first on our boat, and we even caught a fish!! The kids we so excited, I love Makena's face there in the background you would think it was christmas with how big she is smiling about that fish. We did some skiing too, even though it was still a bit chilly at this time. It was fun hanging out and chatting with them.

Makena tried kissing their little boy Dax all night. She has a crush on him or something, when I have tended him in the past she was always trying to kiss him then too. One of her very first words was Dax, they have such a cute bond. I love watching them play, Makena gets so excited when Dax is around.

One afternoon in June I met my two good friends, Jena nd Brooke, and their kids at the Riverdale park to let the kids play on the swings and slides and have a picnic lunch. We had so much fun talking and of course spent a lot of time chasing our kids around.
Riverdale Park has a Splash Pad and the kids insisted on playing in it even though it was a pretty cool day. Makena wasn't too sure about it she seemed content to stand at the edge and watch the kids. This was as close to the water that she got, which was ok with me.

I laugh everytime I look at this picture, I love it! This is all our kids together and shows pretty much how it is when we are all together-crazy and hectic but lots of fun. The boys were freezing but that didn't stop them from running around in the water. Its weird to see all these kids and realize they are all ours, oh how things have changed since our high school and college days.

ICE CREAM
Makena LOVES ice cream! Whenever she eats it she wants to do it all by herself so it is always a big mess but so yummy and very funny (even though I have to clean up the mess after.) Its a good way to stay cool on the hot days.

ZOO!
Makena and I went to the zoo with Shane's sister Trish and her family in the end of June to celebrate her little boy's 4th B-Day. I had never taken Makena to the zoo and had been wanting to take her for months so I was very excited to tag along with the Batt family. Makena had so much fun going there with her cousins, I think she was more interested in running around with them than in the animals most of the time.

Makena's favorite part of the day besides getting out of her stroller and running away from me as fast as she could was the monkey's, ape's and chimpanzees. There was an Ape (I think) that was asleep on the ground right next to the glass and Makena seriously stood there and just laughed at it she thought this was hilarious.

Aunt Trish (she was due with her baby in only two weeks so she was a trooper going to the zoo and walking around in the heat), Miles the birthday boy and Makena enjoying a rest for a minute.

The kids also liked seeing the giraffes, they were really close to where were standing eating leaves off a tree so it was pretty cool to watch.

We ended the day with a yummy picnic lunch. Emma and Makena having fun after lunch. What a wonderful day, it was so fun at the zoo!

4TH OF JULY
On the 3rd I took Makena down to Centerville to go to the breakfast and parade with my mom and dad and my sister, Mandi, to celebrate the 4th of July.

At first Makena wasn't sure what was going on but she soon realized the parade was a lot of fun with lots of candy, neat floats and music. She loved waving back to all the people in the parade and here she is totally dancing and singing along with the band.

On the 5th we went to a park up by our house and had dinner and hung out with Shane's aunt and uncle and cousins. We chatted, played games and waited for the fireworks. Although we didn't last for the fireworks, it had been a long and busy weekend for Makena. She did have a great time playing in this chair at the park, she felt like one of the grownups in it I think.

Memorial Day

We had a fun Memorial Day this year. We started the day off on the boat out at Willard Bay with Zach and Kristen. We have had a slow start to the boating season this year with all the rain and cold weather so we were so excited to have a nice day and be able to go out. The water was still very cold so we used the dry suit but it was smooth as glass and the skiing was incredible! It was a blast!! After boating we headed up City Creek Canyon to spend the day with my family and make dutch oven dinner. It was fun to see all my cousins, aunts and uncles and enjoy the outdoors for an afternoon. Then yesterday my mom, Makena and I drove up to Logan to spend some time with my sister. We stopped by Grandma and Grandpa Jorgensen's grave and walked through cemetery and then went out to lunch. It brought back a lot of wonderful memories of visiting Grandma and Grandpa when I was growing up, they were such fun grandparents and made our visits so special. I love hanging out with my mom and sister so much. It has been a fun week.

Girl's Night!!!

Last Thursday night I went out to dinner with all my best friends from High School and it was so much fun!!!! We went to dinner at Typhoon at the Gateway and had great food and talked until they were ready to kick us out. It was so fun cathcing up with everyone and being able to finish a conversation with them without being interrupted a thousand times by our kids. I love how no matter how long it has been since we have all gotten together it seems like no time has passed and we always have such a great time together. I feel so lucky to have such amazing friends, we have all been through so much together and even though life has taken us on many different roads in many different directions we have always been there for each other and stayed close. Friends can have a huge influence on where people go in life and I am thankful to say my friends have always been such a great support and positive influence on me. Thanks for such a fun night girls! I love you all and look forward to doing it again soon!

Swingset

We got Makena a swingset last week. She loves swinging and since we spend a lot of time out in the yard we thought it would be fun for her to have and keep her entertained. Shane spent last Saturday putting it together, it was quite the project. He said that he needed to go back to school and get his Engineering degree just to read the instructions. I think he deserves a "Dad of the Year" award or something for his efforts considering Saturday was windy and freezing and it rained and hailed on him a few times during the day, but still he continued on and now we have unlimited fun at our fingertips anytime we want in our very own backyard! :) Makena and I went out and played on the swingset yesterday and of course she loved every minute of it.

Showers and Flowers

May has brought numerous days of spring showers and cold days and has us longing for the sun to stay around for good. Even with all the rainy days we have still spent most of our time out in the yard this month. Whenever there was a clear day we would be out planting vegetables, trees, bushes and flowers. My goal for this summer was to get the flower beds in the front yard all planted and done...we are almost there and they look great! I am so excited about how the yard is turning out and I have learned a ton about plants and gardening in the past few weeks. (Thanks a lot to my mom and dad, they have given me a lot of help and ponters!) One good thing about the cool, wet weather is that our vegetable garden seems to be thriving from it. I am hoping for better results in the garden than we got last year, so far so good.

At the first of May we had some family pictures taken. They turned out so cute even though it started raining on us during them and it was super cold. Makena kept looking at us like "why in the world are we out here in the freezing cold with no coat and you want me to smile, you guys are crazy." I was a bit stressed about them but our photographer did great and captured some darling shots of Makena. Makena is 20 months old and is growing up so fast. She doesn't talk a lot but does have the words "no" and "more" down perfectly. She is a very happy, friendly person and very opinionated,she knows exactly what she wants or doesn't want. Shane turned 30 last Sunday! His B-Day is right at the end of tax season when he is always so crazy busy but we still had a lot of fun celebrating his special day. We went to dinner at Tony's with my family on Saturday and got some yummy pizza then his family came over for cake and icecream on Sunday! Shane is a wonderful husband and dad, I love him so much and can't believe he is already 30...we really are getting old. I am looking forward to the next 30 and more years with Shane!!!

Life at our house is going great. Time seems to fly by faster and faster as each day passes. I love being a mom so much, but sometimes realize that I get so caught up in all I have to do for work, cleaning the house, laundry, running errands and everything else that a mom has to that I forget to enjoy the simple moments with Makena that are so precious. They aren't going to last forever. I found a quote on another blog that describes my feelings perfectly. "“The biggest mistake I made [as a parent] is the one that most of us make. . . . I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs. There is one picture of [my three children] sitting in the grass on a quilt in the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages six, four, and one. And I wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night. I wish I had not been in such a hurry to get on to the next thing: dinner, bath, book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less”. ~Anna Quindlen.
Ever since Makena was born I have tried to soak in every detail of her and enjoy everything but even now I realize that I need to remind myself again to live in the moment! I am going to enjoy thedoing and not focus so much on the getting it done. Here are some of the fun, special moments we have had over the past few months. We are so blessed and have such a good and happy life, for that I am truly thankful!

One of my most favorite things is the smell of Makena right after a bath!!

A few weeks ago I went to my friend Brooke's house for lunch, it was so fun visiting with her and Makena had such a fun time with her darling kids. Jaxon was so cute with Makena, even though all she did was follow him around.

Lately Makena hasn't wanted to eat in her highchair...she prefers sitting on the counter and making as big of a messa as possible. I am not so much a fan as she is but I think it makes her feel like a big kid and sometimes there is just no way of convincing her to sit in her chair.

I was in charge of a Young Women's activity a few weeks ago, we dressed up in 80's clothes and after talking about creative ways we can exercise and eat healthy we did a little 80's aerobics. It turned out so fun, the girls in my ward are so cute and I have such a blast with them.

"CHEESE"...Makena will say this and scrunch up her little nose when I want to take a picture. One of her favorit things is eating yogurt all by herself, I don't think too much actually makes it into her mouth that is why I usually strip down to her diaper first.

Makena spends most of everyday playing with her baby, purse and stroller. She is a real girly girl. She loves her babies and is so cute with them, it is amazing to watch how tender and loving she is. Whenever she sees a baby in real life she points and kind of whimpers like a baby does, it is so funny. Most people think she is about to cry, I just know it means she has spotted a baby, she loves them! She looks like a big kid with those pigtails.

I had some drapes made for our back patio door, we sometimes felt like the whole neighborhood could see everything we were doing. They look great, I am so happy with how they turned out! Yeah!!

EASTER!! We had such a fun Easter this year. The Easter Bunny brought Makena a little bike that is going to be so fun this summer. We had a big yummy breakfast and watched morning conference together as a family. In the afternoon we headed out to my parents house where we had a little Easter Egg hunt with Grandma, Grandpa, Mandi and Cole (We miss you Jake and Whitney!). Makena got spoiled again by the Easter Bunny's helpers -Grandma and Grandpa. We watched Conference and then had a deliciouse dinner. It was a fun, relaxing day spent with family. Holidays are just so much fun with kids, I love it!

Well I have officially awarded myself the worste blogger award ever since I have been so bad at keeping this updated lately. We are still alive and doing well. I'm a little behind on getting these pictures posted but we did have a very fun Halloween and Makena was darling in her costume! We had a party with Shane's family on Friday. They came over to our house and we had chilli then played some Halloween games and ended the night off with carving pumpkins. My favorite part of the party is having all the kids dress up and seeing their costumes. They all looked so cute and Makena loved having all the kids there to play with, they are such fun cousins! Then on Halloween my family came up for dinner. We just hung out and talked and passed out candy to the Trick-or-Treaters. We had a great time. I took Makena Trick-or-Treating but we only made it to two houses...she really didn't understand what we were doing and all she wanted to do at both houses was go inside and play.

Shane had Friday off work so we decided to spend it as a family and take Makena to the petting zoo out at Gardner Village. She was so excited to be down on her own exploring with the animals all around her. She was so fun to watch as she cautiously petted all the animals. She even got to go on a pony ride, which she seemed to love. After the petting zoo we browsed a few shops then went out to lunch. It was such a fun day as a family. We have been having a fun fall at our house. I have been enjoying the cooler weather and hope that it stays nice like its been for a lot longer. Shane is slowly coming to terms with the fact that boating season is coming to an end, he always hates to see the summer boating go away. Makena is growing so fast and is so much fun, I find myself laughing at the cute little things she does all the time. We are realizing that she understands a lot more than we give her credit for and she is watching everything we do, so we gotta be careful. Makena has had quite a few ear infections over the past few months and last month she had a bad run in with the flu shot which led us to a long night in the hospital and then to find out that she is allergic to eggs. I was totally suprised by the news but apparently a lot of kids grow out of an egg allergy within a year so we are hoping by staying away from it now we can get her to grow out of it. It has brought on lots of new recipes and creative cooking, luckily not too much stuff we eat (other than desserts and cookies) has egg in it so it hasn't been too bad. I am happy to say that she is doing great now and is as active as ever. My biggest news to share is that I cut my hair!! Yes, I actually did it. I have been wanting to change my hair for a while now but I have been really nervous about actually doing it. I finally talked myself into it and I LOVE it! I cut about 7 or 8 inches off and it has been a fun change. Hope you are all doing great! Happy Fall!

Makena turned one on Wednesday! I can't believe it my little baby is a year old. This has been the fastest year of my life.

My big 1 year old Birthday Girl in her new B-Day outfit!

It really does not seem like a whole year has passed since our sweet little girl came into our lives. She was born on August 19th at 5:28 pm, weighing in at 8lbs 5oz and she was 21 3/4" long. She had tons of dark hair and we were so excited to finally have her here. It was one of the very best days of my whole life, a moment that I will never forget! At 1 year she is now 19 lbs and 39 3/4" long. She is a darling blondie with LOTS of personality, she is walking all over and is a little smarty pants...I am amazed everyday at all that she understands and figures out. She is a very happy little person, always making me and Shane laugh and no matter where we go people are always telling her how cute she is...and she knows it! :) I don't know what I would do without her, she is a joy...even though she still struggles to sleep through the night.

Looking back to a year ago when Makena came into our family...what a cutie. She has changed quite a bit but her little face still looks the same.

For her B-Day we celebrated by having family over for cake and icecream. It was a fun party and we appreciate all of the support from our families, Makena got spoiled and LOVED having all that attention.

When she woke up I gave Makena her first present...a little toy vaccum. She loves helping me vaccum so I thought it would be fun to have her own. She gave me the exact reaction I was looking for. She seemed so excited when I brought it out and opened her mouth like she just couldn't believe it was for her. It was so fun for mom...hope she had as much fun as I did.

Its been such a fun, busy and exciting summer with lots going on. I have been meaning to post pictures for so long but just never seem to get to it. Makena is growing so fast and is so much fun! I can't believe how much she has changed in the last few months. Her 1st Birthday is on Wednesday...I am feeling very emotional about this I just can't believe my little baby is going to be one. It doesn't seem like a whole year has passed. She is such a fun girl with LOTS of personality. She loves people, especially kids and she now has her two bottom teeth and is walking all over the place! I love her so much and love being a mom!

My sister got married on June 27th. It was the day after I got home from Girl's Camp so things were a little crazy and I forgot my camera. But the day was just beautiful, my sister looked amazing and they are such a cute couple! Their reception was incredible and I am so happy for them. Also, this summer my brother, Jake, got engaged. His fiance's name is Whitney and she is great! We love her and are so excited for her to be part of the family. We're looking forward to another wedding in December.

Here are some highlights of the summer...there was so much I had a hard time narrowing it down so hopefully you have a minute to enjoy some of our summer memories.

Now that she is getting a little more mobile and curious, I often find Makena doing something like this making little messes everywhere she goes. Usually it just makes me laugh.

We went boating on the 24th. Shane's sister Jeanne and her family were up there. Her kids had fun riding on the Boom and Makena loved watching them!

We decided to take Makena on the tube for her first time. She wasn't too sure about it at first, or maybe she was just mad about the life jacket but after a minute she really liked it and was waving her arms.

In July we went on a trip with Shane's dad and his sisters up to a cabin in Island Park. The cabin was really big and we had so much fun spending time with Shane's family. Here are the girl's making bracelets, they even make one for Makena.

Well, it has been too long since I have posted. We have been having such a fun and busy spring. We are loving the nice weather and most of all loving watching Makena grow and learn new things and see her funny little personality come out. She will be 9 months this week, I can't believe how fast time goes by! She is getting big way too fast. She is now crawling a little bit, still pretty unsure about going forward, goes backward really well and can roll anywhere she wants. I am not used to having her so mobile and have to remind myself not to leave her on anything she can roll or crawl off of. Shane and I celebrated our B-days in April and are now officially getting old.(HaHa) Here are a few highlights of the last few months.

Easter Sunday -

We have lots of birthdays in April so we got together with Shane's family and had a BBQ to celebrate. My sister, Mandi, got engaged on Friday! Yeah!!! We are so excited for her and Cole, they are such a cute couple. It is wonderful to see them so happy and in love. Congrats Mandi and Cole, we love you and wish you the best in your marriage! I am super excited to help with wedding plans.

Another Good Week!

Last Monday we took Makena swimming for the first time. At first when we put her in the floaty she held on really tight and had a very worried look but she soon relaxed and even seemed to like the water. I think she especially like watching all the kids running and splashing around, there was so much going on she didn't know where to look first. We were so happy that she did so well and never even cried. She looked adorable in her swimming suit and we all had such a fun time. Also, this last week Makena started sitting up on her own. She is growing up so fast, I really can't believe it. We have so much fun watching her master each new stage in her life...being a parent is great!

With all the snow we have been getting lately and the fact that it is tax season which means Shane is always working away, we are definitely looking forward to the warm, more laid back days of summer! In our excited anticipation of the coming summer we decided to buy Makena a life jacket and a swimming suit so that she will be ready for the first boating trip of the season! We are hoping that she will take to the boating life with as much excitment and enthusiasm as her parents...I don't know if she really has a choice though. :) She looks so cute in her little suit, she is our little water baby. We are counting the days until we get to take her on the boat, I think Shane wants her skiing before she can even walk. We try to put her in the life jacket every few days so that she gets used to it, that way by the time she has to wear it she won't mind it at all...we'll see how that goes.

6 Months Already !?!?!

I can't believe it...Makena will be 6 months old tomorrow. It seems like time has gone by so fast with her, I feel like it was just yesterday that I was in the hospital and they handed my precious little baby to me for the first time. I love her so much, she is such a riot! Life is so much fun with her. She is rolling both ways now, making all kinds of noises, eating not only rice cereal but a few fruits and veggies and she has become much more busy and active lately. My favorite thing in the world is her laugh and she is happy to share it with us often! Here are a few pics of some of the things going on in our life over the past month. Not that exciting but we are happy and loving every minute of it.

Makena looked so cute for church the other day that I just had to take some pictures. She has the cutest little cheetah print shoes that one of my friends gave me at a baby shower and they finally fit so I was pretty excited but as you can see from the pictures Makena wasn't too concerned with how cute they looked...she just wanted to eat them!

I kept trying to put them back on but she was more persistent than me...notice all the slobber on the bottom of them.

Makena reached some exciting milestones this week! Last Saturday she rolled over for the first time, she has been really close for a while but to our surprise she finally made it all the way over when she was reaching for a toy. Shane had been playing with her all morning trying to get her to do it and after a while I guess she got up the courage and over she went. She seems pretty happy with her new trick and the fact that she can now get to her toys that used to be out of reach. On Tuesday Makena turned 5 months old and she had her first taste of solid foods...we gave her some rice cereal and she LOVED it! Also, I have finally started putting her in her crib to sleep during the night instead of in the cradle next to my bed. I know to some people she may seem a little old to still be sleeping in our room but I absolutely love having her sleeping right there close to me. I love hearing her breathing and the little noises she makes while she is sleeping and I feel a little nervous having her way down the hall. I know that now is the right time for this transition but it has been a hard one for me. It's crazy all the emotions you have as a mom and the things that you get attached to...I would have never thought that this would have been such a tough thing for me. So its been a fun week watching Makena learn and grow. She is so much fun and brings a lot of happiness into our home. Also, this week I finished two more model homes for Rainey. That makes 14 Models/Parade Homes I have done in the last 3 1/2 years since working at Rainey Homes. They turned out really good but I am happy that they are done, they are a lot of work and take long days to get things done which is a bit harder to juggle with a baby.

When my Sister-In-Law tells her little girl that they are going to see Dr. Rose (our Pediatrician)she points her finger and says-"No, No...Dr. Rose!" She remembers the shots and the not so fun things that happen at the doctor when she was sick. Well, I am pretty sure if Makena could talk today she would be saying "No, No...Dr. Rose!" We had her 4 month check up today and had to get another batch of shots. Makena started out the appointment smiling and giggling as she tried to grab at the fish that are painted on the walls but it didn't end like that. As soon as the nurse gave her the shot her binki shot out of her mouth and she screamed louder than I have ever heard her and her face turned so red it was almost purple...luckily the scream didn't last long but she did look up at me with sad little eyes after, it broke my heart. Overall she was a brave girl and was back to smiling and gooing very quickly, she is such a happy little person! She weighed in at 14 lbs and 5 oz and is 25 inches long. So she is still pretty tall for her age. I am happy that she is healthy and developing as she should be and I am especially happy and feel super lucky that she has such a happy, content personality most of the time, she is a joy. I still can't believe that she will be 5 months old next week...time has gone so fast since she came into our life. I love her so much and feel so blessed to have this special little person as my side kick each day.

Shane surprised me with a new camera for Christmas! I was so excited because our old camera was getting pretty bad. So I have been having lots of fun figuring it out and taking lots and lots of pictures of my own little model, Makena...good thing she is a good sport about it. So here are some of the pictures I have taken of her showing off her new Christmas clothes and lookin' good! I can't believe she is already almost 5 months old. She has changed a lot since she was born...you'll probably notice that her hair has gotten a lot lighter (and she has lost some). The roots are coming in blond...so to my surprise it looks like she may end up a blue eyed blondie. Never would have guessed that!

We had such a fun Christmas this year. We went to my parents house for Christmas eve and slept over and opened presents with them in the morning. We had a great time with them and they really spoiled Makena...she is the first gandchild lucky her! (Okay, they spoiled us too):) Then we headed up to Shane's moms house for a yummy breakfast and more presents. It was so good to see everyone and it was a great day!

We have been having a fun and busy December getting ready for Christmas. Its been so fun celebrating the season with our little Makena. We have enjoyed seeing family and friends at all the parties. I am so excited for Christmas and to give Makena her present...Shane and I put it together last night but we are waiting to show her until Christmas (even though she won't know what is going on). Makena is getting so big and is so much fun. She loves to "talk", well its more like just making noises but she knows what she is saying and sometimes her stories get pretty serious...once she gets going she just goes on and on, her little voice is so adorable. She also laughs now too, which is pretty much the cutest thing I have ever seen. Makena did get sick this month...the first time ever so mom and dad were pretty worried and really tried to keep her inside and away from people. She got better pretty quick and is back to her smiling, happy, very alert and active self. At this time of year I can't help but reflect on all the blessings we enjoy and feel so very blessed. I have a wonderful family and I am truly grateful for the blessing of being a mother that I now get to enjoy. I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas and enjoy the holidays surrounded by family and friends. Here are some pictures of our Makena over the past month as we celebrated the Christmas season.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year with my family. We went to my parents house and had a delicious meal prepared by my mom and dad. After dinner we had a lot of fun playing cards. It was a great day and I am so thankful for my family and for my sweet husband Shane and my cute Makena. We have been very blessed and have so many things to be thankful for!

Our little vacation

Shane had some business down in Las Vegas so we decided to make a little family vacation out of it. We went to St. Geaorge for a few days then down to Vegas for a night. It was fun to get away just the three of us and spend some quality time together. The weather was nice, we took a few walks, went out to breakfast, did some shopping and just relaxed. Makena did great on the car rides there and back, sleeping pretty much most of the time. Here are a few pictures of Makena on the trip, but they are in the condo and so you pretty much can't tell that we are on vacation...sometimes we forget we can take pictures of other things besides our little Makena. :)

Halloween

I know I am a bit behind on getting these posted but we did have a very fun Halloween with Makena! She was a little bunny rabbit and looked adorable! I think she was a little afraid of the costume though, the head part was a little big and kept falling in her eyes. The Sunday before Halloween we went to a party with Shane's family, all the kids dressed up and we carved pumpkins. The kids looked so cute and it was fun for me and Shane to have a kid to dress up and join in the fun with. On Halloween we went to my parents house and had homemade chilli and just hung out. Makena is the only gandchild on my side so she got lots of attention in her cute costume, everyone was taking pictures and passing her around...we were all pretty excited but she just looked at us like she wondered what in the world was going on. Makena's first holiday was a lot of fun!

I just love being a mom! Makena is my greatest joy, she truly brings such happiness to me. I have so much fun with her each day as I see her grow and progress. As a new proud mom I think that everything Makena does is so cute and I take like a million pictures of her every day. I'm always telling Shane to "go get the camera". A few weeks ago Shane learned how to barefoot off the rope that attaches to the boom of our boat. He is very excited about being able to barefoot. In this video he is trying to switch from two feet to one foot barefooting. As you will see he was not successful in his attempt. Maybe next time. I would have posted the successful barefooting attempt but the file was to big. Sorry.

We got to bring Makena home on Saturday, August 23rd. We were so happy that she was healthy and doing good and could not wait to have her home with us.

NICU

While I was in labor I got a really high fever for some reason, so my doctor was pretty concerned about me and the baby and put me on antibiotics. When Makena was born she had a little trouble breathing at first but quickly seemed fine. Just to be safe they took some blood test from her to make sure everything was ok. It seemed like she was just fine and she was able to be with Shane and I in the room through the night. Unfortunetly, in the morning the blood test were showing that her White Blood Cell count was incredibly high and other things were not looking right so our Pediatrician came in and told us she had to go into the NICU because it appeared that she had a really bad infection. This news was obviously very overwhelming and upsetting to me, expecially since I didn't really understand exactly what was wrong with her. Also, they weren't sure how long she would have to be in there. The first time I went in and saw her in the little incubator with all the wires and iv hooked to her it was so sad, I couldn't beleive my little baby was so sick. The next few days went by in a bit of a blur. I had to feed her every three hours and since she wasn't eating enough just breast feeding I had to do a lot of pumping and bottle feeding which took a lot of time and became exhausting. Luckily the antibiotics began to work quickly and Makena started doing much better. Several tests were done and she was finally well enough to go home by Saturday afternoon. As you can imagine Shane and I were so excited and releived! It was definitely an emotional rollercoster this last week but we are so thankful for our darling baby and that she is doing well. We are also so thankful for all the support and prayers from our families and friends, I truly believe that Makena's quick recovery is a little miracle. After having contractions all night I woke Shane up at about 4 am on Tuesday, August 19th, and told him I thought it was time to head to the hospital. It was a long day of being in labor but thankfully I had an epidural to make things a little easier. I truly do not know how people do it without having an epidural, that is amazing to me. I personally loved my epidural. :) Shane was right by my side all day and was a great support to me. At 5:38 pm our sweet, little Makena came into this world. It was an incredible moment that I will never forget and I am so thankful for her and for my sweet husband and this special time we were able to experience together. Makena was 8 lbs, 5 ounces and 21 3/4" long!! Yep, she was a big girl. I was shocked when they told me how much she weighed, I never expected to have that big of a baby. She has tons of dark curly hair that is just adorable.

Almost there...

So it has been a long time since I have posted, I just can't seem to stay on top of this blogging thing. So I am due on Monday, it is crazy to think we are almost to the end of this journey called "pregnancy" and about to begin a new one called "parenting". I am so ready to have this baby, I keep hoping that any minute I am going to go into labor. I really do not want to go over my due date but I guess at this point all we can do is wait. I have received lots of "advice" as to how to get labor going so this morning Shane and I decided to give one of the ideas a try. I was told that Curb Walking is a sure way to get things going so we went on a walk this morning and I walked with one foot up on the curb and the other on the road. I will say during the actual walk my belly did have several contractions and it was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I am really hoping that our little walk will pay off and by tonight we will be up at the hospital, but it has been over an hour since I have had a contraction and I am just really tired at this point. I just want our little girl to come, I can't wait to meet her and see what she looks like. I am as ready as I think you can be for her to come, it will be a long week next week if she doesn't decide to come. I am used to being so busy at work that being home I just keep cleaning my house and organizing things but you can only do that so many times. Her room is all ready and it turned out so cute, I will post pics of it soon. Anyway, we have our fingers crossed that she will be here soon, I am so excited! We'll keep you all posted.

Maiden Voyage!

This winter Shane and I bought a boat with his cousin, Zach. We love boating and water skiing and have had many fun times out on the lake ever since Shane and I started dating. We have always wanted to get our own boat so when Shane and Zach came across this Ski Centurion on KSL they got pretty excited and we just couldn't pass it up. They have been really anxious to get out on the lake and run the boat ever since we got it. So a couple Saturday's ago we had the boat dewinterized and the motor all checked out. Everything looked great and so we decided the first warm day we had a chance we would take the boat out for its maiden voyage. Monday, April 28th was my B-Day and a very beautiful day so the three of us along with Shane's dad left work a little early and headed up to Pineview to go for a test drive. It's still a little early in the season to be out boating, especially this year with all the snow we have had. There was still snow on the banks and the water was super cold. We weren't really planning on actually getting out and skiing but the water was glass and the air was pretty warm so the boys just couldn't resist, although I think once they actually got in the water they had second thoughts about their decision. Since I am pregnant they didn't even pressure me to get in, but I am sure if I weren't that there would have been some peer pressure and I would have ended up in the freezing lake as well. The boat ran awesome which was exciting for all of us and the water was amazing. Shane and Zach are both great water skiers and had really good runs to start the summer off. I still think they are a little crazy for getting into that cold water but they did wear two wetsuits. We are happy with our purchase and look forward to a fun summer of boating and many years of fun memories! It was a fun way to celebrate my B-Day.

We found out yesterday at our ultrasound that we are having a GIRL!!!!!!! We are so excited. The ultrasound went great, our little girl is growing just as she should and everything looks healthy. It was so amazing to see her little hands and feet moving all around and see her tiny heart beating away. We are so thankful for the opportunity we have to be pregnant and be parents of this special little girl! Now that we know what we are having I guess I can start shopping for all the darling girl stuff!!!

Girl's Trip to Chicago!!

My mom has been wanting to do a girl's trip with me and my sister for a while now but we have never actually got around to doing it. So last week was my mom's birthday and she decided for her birthday she finally wanted to do our girl's trip, so the three of us headed out for CHICAGO!! We had a blast! We stayed at the Wyndom Hotel in downtown Chicago, it was way nice and close to everything. The first day we went shopping along Michigan Avenue, there is a mile stretch that has tons of stores called The Miracle Mile. We found lots of good stuff of course, and had a chance to see more of the city. That night we went to the Broadway play "Wicked", it was really amazing. The next day we went out to a HUGE mall about an hour outside of the city, it was seriously the biggest mall I have ever been to. There were tons of great stores and all three of us were in shopping heaven. We also ate at the Cheesecake Factory while we were out there, it was delicious. We took some cheesecake back to the hotel with us and while we ate it we watched a movie and just hung out. It was a fun way to end the day. The next day was Saturday and the city was celebrating St. Patrick's Day. There were thousands and thousands of people that came out to see the river which they turn green and watch the parade. It was crazy on the streets, everyone was dressed in green and already drunk and it was only noon. But it was fun to see the green river and the excitement of all those people. We also went to the Art Institute of Chicago Museum that day. After that we headed to "The Blue Man Group" show, it was a crazy, funny and very random show but very good. So as you can see we stayed very busy and had an incredible time. It was fun to just spend time together and get away for a few days!! Thanks mom!!

Expecting!

So I have been really bad at keeping up on this whole blogging thing, but in checking out so many of your blogs I am inspired to try again. Life has been a whirlwind for us the last few months but like I said it is full of wonderful things. The most wonderful of them being that we are EXPECTING!!!! Thats right we are pregnant. Most of you probably already knew but for some it may be a suprise. I am 18 weeks along (thats about 4 1/2 months for those of you who do not measure by weeks), my due date is August 18th! We are so excited to have a baby and expand our little family. The first 16 weeks I was very sick and it was a pretty rough time but I am feeling so much better now and feel so blessed to have the opportunity to be pregnant and be a mother.

This is me during the first part of my pregnancy feeling pretty yucky. I spent a lot of nights out in the rocking chair. Glad that those days are past.

We announced our "news" to our families for Christmas. I wrote them a poem and we wrapped it up and gave it to our parents. For my parents I wrapped the poem along with some bibs and a little book about grandparents in a huge box and there were several smaller boxes wrapped inside. It was so fun to tell our families and see their excitment. That was definitely an unforgetable Christmas for everyone! I love these pics of my parents opening their present, their reaction was so fun.

Mom for a day

So on Friday I tended our nephew Miles. I had him from Friday around 4:00 until Saturday afternoon. My sister-in-law Trish keeps telling me thank you but really I should thank her...I had so much fun pretending to be "mom" for the day. Miles is such a sweetheart and he really got attached to me (I'm sure because I was giving him all the attention he could ever want and pretty much anything else he wanted too.) My mom came over and Miles was pretty much attached to my leg, he was squeezing it like his life depended on it. She took this picture cause it was so funny. If I went out of the room he would yell "Hey" and come look for me. He was also totally amazed by my cell phone and would not put it down. I had to take it from him once to answer a call from Shane and he got this sad little puppy dog look on his face like I had just broken his heart...too funny! When Shane got home it took Miles a minute to warm up to him but he soon did cause Shane is lots of fun and in no time he had Miles laughing and playing. Home Sweet Home

So like I have said Shane and I just built a house in Marriott-Slaterville. Building a home was an experience like nothing else. It was fun, exciting, nerve wracking and stressful all in one! It was very interesting to watch the process of our home being built each step at a time. We checked on our house pretty much daily for all six months of construction and took many, many pictures to remeber each step. Here is our house from just the lot through foundation, framing, brick, painting and finally moving in. It is a great home that we have put a lot of thought and time into to truly make it our home just the way we want it. People say if your marriage can survive building a home it can survive anything...I guess Shane and I have no worries from here on out, right!?! (We only had a few fights over it, the rest was a lot of fun and I am glad we were in it together!)

Okay, so this whole blogging thing is really totally out of my element...I really don't do things like this but with pressure from my friend Kerstin at work and the fact that I do think it is a fun way to keep people in touch I guess you could say I am now a "blogger". To start things off here are some pictures of some fun moments over the last two years since Shane and I have been married (they are in no particular order). I kind of feel like I do every time I start writing in a journal again...where do I start so much has happened.
